Hungary (Hungarian: Magyarország) is a landlocked country in southeastern Central Europe. Hungary’s thermal springs are renowned, and their presence is due to the special geological composition of the Carpathian Basin. Spa tourism was introduced to the area by the Romans, but its greatest development was recorded during the Turkish occupation in the 16th and 17th centuries (which is also why many of the local spas have an oriental feel).
